WHY IT MATTERS FOR MELANIN-RICH SKIN:
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is the most common skin concern for Fitzpatrick IV, V, and VI skin types. And it is the most undertreated. Here is why single-ingredient brighteners consistently fail melanin-rich skin:
Melanin overproduction does not happen through one pathway. It happens through multiple simultaneous processes — tyrosinase enzyme activity, inflammatory response, hormonal triggers, UV exposure, and oxidative stress — often occurring at the same time in the same area of skin.
A single brightening ingredient interrupts one pathway. The others remain fully active.
Dark spots appear to respond initially — then return. Or new spots form adjacent to the ones being treated. Or the formula causes irritation that triggers the very inflammation creating new PIH simultaneously.
The Even Bright Serum was formulated to address this reality directly.
Seven ingredients. Seven pathways. The complete brightening protocol for melanin-rich skin that has been failed by single-ingredient approaches for years.
Overview
Hyperpigmentation on melanin-rich skin is not stubborn because it cannot be treated.
It is stubborn because it has been undertreated — with single-ingredient brighteners that address one pathway while the other six remain open.
The Even Bright Serum was formulated differently.
Seven clinically recognized brightening agents. Each targeting a different stage of the melanin production process. Together addressing every pathway through which melanin-rich skin produces excess pigmentation.
Existing dark spots faded from multiple directions simultaneously. New pigmentation prevented before it reaches the surface.
This is not brightening adapted for melanin-rich skin. This is brightening engineered around the way melanin-rich skin produces pigmentation in the first place.
Evening ritual — after cleansing.
Apply the Even Bright Serum after your Azelaic Soft Cleanser — on slightly damp skin — before your evening moisturizer.
For women using the Clear Pro Pads — apply the Even Bright Serum on alternate evenings rather than layering both on the same night.
Allow to absorb fully before applying your OROYO moisturizer.
The Even Bright Serum can also be used in the morning — applied after cleansing and before the Brilliance Serum — for an around-the-clock brightening protocol that addresses pigmentation from both the morning and evening sides simultaneously.
If using morning and evening — always ensure the Tinted or Non-Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 is your absolute final step every morning.
Without SPF — UV exposure recreates the pigmentation both the Even Bright Serum and the Brilliance Serum are working to fade. SPF is non-negotiable.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Reduces inflammation, fades dark marks, strengthens the skin barrier, and minimizes oxidative stress. A multi-purpose essential for melanin-rich skin.
Alpha-Arbutin: Inhibits tyrosinase to reduce melanin overproduction. Gentler and more stable than hydroquinone. Safe for all skin tones.
Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (Azelaic Acid): Calms blemish-prone skin, reduces redness, and actively fades pigmentation. Well-tolerated across all skin tones.
Kojic Acid: Regulates melanin production and enhances overall skin clarity. Works synergistically with other brighteners for amplified results.
Tranexamic Acid: Clinically proven to reduce discoloration and inhibit melanin transfer. Especially effective for PIH and melasma.
Mandelic Acid: Gentle AHA exfoliant with a large molecule size — improves texture and radiance without the irritation risk of smaller acids.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Stable Vitamin C): A lipid-soluble Vitamin C that penetrates deeply, providing brightening and antioxidant protection without the instability of L-ascorbic acid.
About the Formula
how it works
PATHWAY 01 — TYROSINASE INHIBITION Alpha-Arbutin
The enzyme tyrosinase drives excess melanin production in melanin-rich skin. Alpha-Arbutin inhibits this enzyme directly — fading existing dark spots and preventing new ones from forming at the biochemical source.
Alpha-Arbutin is one of the most clinically validated tyrosinase inhibitors for melanin-rich skin — effective without the irritation or sensitization risk of stronger depigmenting agents.
PATHWAY 02 — ANTI-INFLAMMATORY BRIGHTENING Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Inflammation is the most direct trigger for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on melanin-rich skin. Every breakout, every irritation, every inflammatory event creates a new dark mark.
Niacinamide reduces the inflammatory response that drives this cycle — addressing PIH at its trigger rather than only at its result. Simultaneously it improves barrier function and hydration — supporting the skin environment in which every other brightening ingredient works best.
PATHWAY 03 — MELANIN TRANSFER DISRUPTION Tranexamic Acid
Tranexamic acid disrupts the communication between keratinocytes and melanocytes — interrupting the signal that transfers excess melanin to the skin surface where it appears as a dark spot.
Particularly effective for melasma and the hormonal pigmentation that persists despite consistent treatment with other brighteners — because it addresses a different stage of the process than tyrosinase inhibitors alone.
PATHWAY 04 — MELANIN PRODUCTION REGULATION Kojic Acid
Works synergistically with Tranexamic Acid to regulate melanin production at multiple stages — particularly effective for the inflammatory pigmentation cycle most common in melanin-rich skin dealing with both hormonal and UV-triggered dark spots simultaneously.
PATHWAY 05 — SURFACE RESURFACING L-Mandelic Acid (AHA)
Gently exfoliates the skin surface to remove the layers of dead skin cells where accumulated pigmentation sits — revealing the clearer skin developing beneath while the deeper brightening ingredients work at the cellular level. Mandelic acid’s larger molecular structure makes it the AHA of choice for melanin-rich skin. Slower, more controlled penetration means effective resurfacing without the irritation risk that glycolic acid carries for Fitzpatrick IV, V, and VI skin types.
PATHWAY 06 — INFLAMMATION CONTROL AND BARRIER SUPPORT Azelaic Acid (Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate)
Calms active inflammation and soothes blemish-prone skin — reducing the ongoing inflammatory environment that keeps new PIH forming on melanin-rich skin. Azelaic acid is one of the most clinically trusted ingredients for melanin-rich skin precisely because it addresses both acne and pigmentation safely — without the irritation that worsens the conditions it is trying to treat.
PATHWAY 07 — ANTIOXIDANT AND UV BRIGHTENING PROTECTION Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate · Bearberry Extract · Licorice Root · Phytic Acid A stable
Vitamin C derivative combined with three plant-derived brightening and antioxidant agents. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is oil-soluble — allowing it to penetrate the skin barrier at a different depth than water-soluble L-Ascorbic Acid and providing brightening support from an additional pathway. Bearberry extract, licorice root, and phytic acid provide antioxidant protection and additional brightening support — helping melanin-rich skin resist the UV-triggered melanin overproduction that recreates dark spots every unprotected day.
Lightweight thick crème -like serum. Absorbs effortlessly.
Fast-absorbing enough to layer comfortably under both moisturizer and sunscreen — making it suitable for both morning and evening use within the full ritual protocol.
For maximum results — apply in the evening after cleansing when the skin’s natural renewal cycle is most active and ingredient absorption is deepest.
Week 1–2: Skin tone feels more balanced. Hydration visibly improves as niacinamide strengthens the barrier. The complexion appears more calm and more even after each application.
Week 3–4: Existing dark spots begin to visibly fade. Complexion becomes noticeably brighter and more uniform. New pigmentation forms less readily as the multiple inhibition pathways accumulate effect.
Long-term: Significantly reduced melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. Visibly radiant, uniform skin tone. The seven pathways working together produce results that accelerate over time rather than plateau — because the underlying pigmentation cycle is being addressed at every stage.
